Coming soon from Casa Nueva...

...our next release fulfills a long-held ambition. Over the coming weeks, we'll be telling you more about the process that lead to this important recording, but for now we're just proud to announce the impending arrival of No Great Lost: Songs, 1979-1985, a deluxe anthology of the early work of Kevin Dunn, unsung architect of the southern new wave – available on May 18, 2010.

The fact that Kevin Dunn's classic recordings have been unavailable for a quarter-century is a grave injustice that we at Casa Nueva are proud to correct. Consisting of all of his 1981 cult-classic The Judgement of Paris (painstakingly restored from the original 16-track masters, including both the US and UK tracks), augmented by classic 45, EP, and LP sides, No Great Lost paints a very compelling portrait of this incredibly influential writer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and all-around visionary.

His first band The Fans influenced a whole generation of southern post-punk musicians – REM and Pylon among them. He co-produced the seismic early recordings of both the B-52s and Pylon. His own music bristles with invention, melodic wit, and exploratory zeal – a uniquely southern refraction of the textural and lyrical possibilities of avant-garde pop.

We'll stop rambling (for now), and leave you with these words spoken by Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo upon hearing this collection:

“Snotty, literate pop from this underground master of the post-punk era, sounding like the missing link between Brian Eno circa Tiger Mountain, and XTC circa Drums and Wires – while also truly ahead of its time, like it could have been recorded by kids today. Oozing with angular hooks, synth bleeps and fuzz guitar wizardry, a compilation of songs that should be – and will be, and already are – classics.”
